HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Use our math sessions on Thursday and Friday to work out how much your invention / business will cost.
Let's imagine that I am starting a pizza businessI would need to work out the costs for- ingredients- packaging- advertising- overheads (staff who sell it for me, the building I cook them in, electricity to run the ovens etc)-? (anything I forgot?!) Decide your "cost price" - how much it costs to sell with NO profit. Then decide how much PROFIT you want to make. Then.. find the maths. Which element of your invention / business uses the largest fraction of your total cost? Which is the smallest? Which one could you reduce to increase profits? Can you show each element as a fraction of the whole cost? Which are easier to use, fractions or percentages?
On Friday you will share with the class
What percentage of the FINAL TOTAL price is profit and which is cost?
HOW DID YOU WORK IT OUT?
Remember to - look up comparable items to have an idea of the cost in the market. - use bulk purchasing places like Abcoe - if you find a good website tell your friends! Procedure / structure
